Teaching and learning

McDonnell Creek State School is a two-teacher school consisting of:

  • P-2 Class – Mrs Sandra Bulger
  • 3-7 Class –

Students are supported in their learning through an Explicit Teaching Model, adopted as the schools, teaching and learning framework.

Teaching is structured to provide students every opportunity to move acquired content knowledge from short-term to long-term knowledge as soon as possible for as long as possible.

Through repetitive and interactive structured lessons students are challenged through learning goals and high expectations.

The school respects the need for independent learning to be acquired for independence, and hence offers regular opportunities for students to use strategic ‘thinking skills’ to pose and solve problems.

With the unique environment which the school is set, students are involved in a number of extra-curricular activities including, gardening, a range of sporting activities and environmental education.
